  3. I tried to upload the following to oak.oakland:/pub/hamradio/incoming
  4. but got a permission denied.  If you can put it in it might be helpful
  5. to others.

  12. DISCLAIMER: Some of these mods require knowledge of surface
  13. mount soldering techniques, if you do not know what you are doing
  14. you can easily damage your radio.  These mods may make
  15. your radio illegal to own and/or illegal to use on certain frequencies.
  16. By performing these mods you are taking full responsibility for
  17. any consequences that may arise. Performing these mods may
  18. invalidate your warranty.

  20. Crossband repeat (no internal mod required)
  21.  
  22. To enable crossband repeat press and hold the BAND
  23. key and the SET key for about a second, a flashing L will
  24. appear in the lower right. To turn off hold the SET key.
  25. Unfortunately code squelch does not seem to work when
  26. crossband repeat is enabled. Don't know about tone squelch.

  28. Extended Receive
  29.  
  30. To enable extended receive a jumper has to be removed. To
  31. enable extended transmit a diode has to be removed. I have only
  32. tested the extended receive which gives you from 118-174.995
  33. and 320-479.995.

  35. Open the case by removing all the screws on the top, bottom
  36. and left/right sides and separating the top and bottom
  37. covers from the chassis.

  39. Next remove the plastic front panel that covers the logic circuit
  40. board by removing the two top and two bottom screws that attach
  41. it to the chassis.

  43. Next remove the front panel logic board by taking out the four
  44. front screws that attach it to the chassis.
  45.  
  46. Position the logic board so that the side normally near the chassis
  47. is on top and a round flat battery attached via leads is visible with
  48. the connector near the bottom and the cut out at the bottom right.
  49.  
  50. Below the battery on the lower right there are a number of
  51. diodes, most likely surfaced mounted. Look just to the left of
  52. the diodes, there will be a very small surface mount jumper at
  53. the bottom (-#WW#- on diagram below). There is no silk screen
  54. on the board to identify it (on mine at least) but the part
  55. itself may have a zero printed on it for zero ohms. Removing
  56. this jumper will give you extended receive capability.

  69. Extended Transmit

  71. By removing one of the diodes in the area mentioned above
  72. extended transmit is purported to be possible. I have not verified
  73. this since I don't need this capability but it is supposed to
  74. significantly extend the transmit capability in the VHF band.

  76. To enable extended transmit remove the diode that is most near
  77. the right hand bottom part of the board as indicated
  78. in the diagram above with -***-.

  80. Reassemble and reset CPU per instruction manual.
